We Have Arrived

Welcome back to Just One More…Blog.  We are so glad you are following us!  It makes it so much more fun for us knowing you are, hopefully, enjoying our journey and all the crazy #$#% that we get into.

After over 27 hours driving and staying in 3 different states (Indiana, New York & Massachusetts) since Wednesday, June 15th, we finally arrived in Freeport, Maine on Sunday, June 19th, Father’s Day.  We have been planning on traveling to Maine since 2018 after the last time we were here.  When I started the itinerary for 2022, way back during 2020, we knew we were going to be in Maine for the Summer and Fall of 2022.  The entire trip, when we started last year, was around getting here!  And, HERE WE ARE!

While we were in Massachusetts, we were able to visit with our friends Ron and Carol.  Who are Ron and Carol you ask?  While I was the Director of Development for Lazarex Cancer Foundation, Ron and Carol’s son, Scott, was a patient.  We became quite close during Scott’s involvement with Lazarex and have remained friends even after Scott, unfortunately, passed away.  We even visited them at their amazing home in St. Maarten in 2013 and had a blast together!

The best part of this lifestyle, as I have said numerous times, is being able to visit with friends all over the country.  When I was planning the trip to Freeport, I could not believe we were traveling through their area.  So, of course, we had to see them.  I had scheduled for us to be in Massachusetts on Friday and Saturday, as Friday was Carol’s birthday.  (Scott’s heavenly birthday was on Sunday the 19th)  We were going to celebrate together.  Instead, we arrived on Saturday and were only able to see them for dinner Saturday night due to our unfortunate trip to Indiana!  Yes, I was very upset about this.

Honestly, that was one of the worst parts about this whole situation. But, at least we were able to see them and spend some time with them.  We will be back through the exact RV park on Oct 3rd so we will see them again!

I just have to say that, as a silver lining to this entire experience, everything was fixed in a day.  Trust me when I say, we were incredibly lucky.  I continue to read horror stories of people’s “homes” still in the shop after 6 months because they are waiting on parts or just because there is a huge shortage of staff!  We really picked a great time to be on the road! (not so much)  The lack of parts, service people and most of all the cost of fuel!!!  But, it’s not going to stop us!  We are adjusting and will make the best of it.  Let’s just hope, for the time being, nothing else breaks.  I know I just jinxed myself.  As I have said, it’s not IF, it’s WHEN!  S*** happens!  We just need a break for a bit; and we have it as we are in Freeport until Aug 1st.

To say we were beaten to hell, on Sunday, is an understatement.  Especially Jerry!  After we set up the RV (it was raining by the way) we just looked at each other and almost started to cry.  We were a bit emotional to say the least.  Of course, being overly tired had nothing to do with our emotions. Yeah, right!!

Because it was raining and VERY cold, we decided to do nothing and stay in the RV and go to bed very early.  The exciting part is we have decent WiFi and are able to stream our shows on TV, do Zoom meetings and google to our hearts content.  It’s the little things that make us so happy!  Another great thing that is making us so happy is the weather!!!  It is in the upper 60’s, low 70’s no humidity and gorgeous!!  This is my kind of summer!  I’m sure it will get warmer for July and August, but nothing compared to what is going on around the country.  We are so fortunate to be here!  It was so cold the other night, we had to get the heater on and the fireplace!!!

For the first 4 days we’ve been here, we have eaten lobster!  I told Jerry he needs to get a job just to pay for it!  We were shocked at the prices of a lobster roll.  Did that stop us from eating lobster?  Hell no!  But, we have now said, no more as it is really unbelievable the cost.  The most expensive lobster roll we had was at Red’s Eats. It was $31.00, but the amount of lobster was beyond awesome.  This place is crazy.  It’s a small shack where people wait up to 2 hours in line.

We had been there in 2018 and waited 90 minutes in the rain (Jerry was not happy)!  This time, we got there 30 minutes before they opened and there were only about 20 people in front of us.  When we were eating, the line was around the corner and then some.  They have been featured on many shows, and lists for The Best in Maine.  Highly recommend it when you visit the area.

On Thursday, we went back to Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster after being there on Tuesday for a Lobster Roll. This time we had the lobster lunch which included a 1 pound whole lobster, 12 clams and an ear of corn for $28.00.  That’s the way to go as I don’t eat rolls anyway and give them to Jerry each time!  It was amazing!!!

Now, we are done for a while with lobster and will move on to other fabulous seafood such as Oysters.  They are a lot less expensive!  In fact, this weekend is the first annual Oyster Festival in Freeport.  Who knew?  We bought tickets and are ready.   When you read this we will be enjoying oysters from all over Maine.  Cannot wait.

In July, there will be the clam festival in Yarmouth, Maine.  Yep, we will be going to that as well.  To say we are in seafood heaven, is an understatement.

It’s not all about the food (well, maybe it is).  We went to LL Bean and will be back as it is huge!!  They have individual stores all around the Freeport Center area, such as a store for home goods, hunting and fishing, and of course their flagship store.  It takes days to go through. We will be visiting Portland and taking beautiful drives and hikes along the Maine shorelines.  Going to different farms and lighthouses and just being tourists.  We will also be relaxing a lot while here as the Cedar Haven Campground is beautiful!  We feel like we are in the forest.  It smells so wonderful here.  We are only 7 minutes from Freeport.

We are so excited to be here and to have our home fixed.  We are ready for whatever comes our way.  Ok, well, not whatever!  Only good stuff!
